Ensuring that all decedents in our care are handled with dignity and respect. Ensuring quality care is given to each decedent with attention to detail. Floor supervisors will be responsible for transportation, care, embalming, cosmetics and preparation process. Floor supervisor will be responsible to ensure all policies and procedures are followed with regard to decedent care. Train Embalmers and Apprentice Embalmers to produce high quality and well preserved human remains in accordance with Company standards. The floor supervisor is expected to also ensure high quality results are maintained in preparing decedents for viewings, services or cremation ceremonies. The floor Supervisor is to be an active presence in the preparation room and QC areas for the purpose of ensuring that high quality is maintained.

Essential Job Functions: Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • Confirm that all remains are properly identified, tagged and classified for appropriate embalming or preparation status.

  • Inspect previously embalmed remains. Able to identify ample fluid distribution or problems that may arise and coach staff to correct. Offer constructive feedback

  • Able to inspect and support staff to ensure cosmetics and appearance of decedent meets Company Standards

  • Able to support Quality Control and problem solve issues relating to identification, hair care, cosmetics, dressing etc.

  • Ensure staff is following SCI policies as well as OSHA policies

  • Ensure the positive identification of all remains

  • Assist with phone traffic, support removal staff, dispatch, embalming and Quality Control staff meet deadlines.

  • Maintain employees’ professional development records

  • Ensure remains are prepared daily for cremation

  • Assume responsibilities the of related Mortuary Departments in the absence of their supervisors

  • Plan the administration of and clearly delegate to personnel assigned, the necessary authority and areas of work responsibility so all uncertainty is removed as to work relationships, areas of accountability, and performance expected.

  • Evaluate the work performance of assigned personnel on a continuing basis

  • Ensure that all work areas, working conditions, and work habits are performed in accordance with Company, state, and federal rules and regulations by understanding the importance of health and safety. Report unsafe conditions to management

  • Keep immediate supervisor promptly and fully informed of all problems and significant matters, and take prompt corrective action as needed.

  • Participate in training and skill development opportunities to improve competency and customer service

  • Report to work on time and maintain standard attendance

Preferred Experience and Education:

  • 2-year experience with quality control

  • Familiarity with all phases of funeral services

Required Experience and Education:

  • Licensed Embalmer in the State of California

  • A.A. degree in Mortuary Science

Special Skills

  • CA Embalmer’s License

  • Supervisory, leadership, and quality control skills

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Compassionate personality to relate with the bereaved

  • Valid CA driver’s license

  • Drive Company vehicles

  • Operate forklift and mortuary body lift

  • Operate embalming machine

  • Cosmetic application skills

  • Current HBV vaccination

  • Operate PC with MSOffice software and HMIS

  • Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull up to twenty (20) to thirty (30) bodies/caskets per day, weighing from 70lbs to 300lbs. and into and out of refrigerated storage (lift test will be administered).
