This position serves after standard business hours as the first point of contact for families/legal representatives in need of funeral services. The Director compassionately facilitates funeral arrangement discussions then seamlessly coordinates the necessary activities to ensure each request is addressed in a professional and timely manner.


  • As the need arises answer incoming calls from family members/legal representatives between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.

  • Exhibiting concern and empathy, obtain or confirm deceased and family contact information; discusses if pre-need arrangements have been made or at-need arrangements are necessary

  • Discusses and confirms desired schedules and location of services with family

  • Dispatches technicians for removal in accordance with state, local guidelines while honoring deceased religious customs

  • Contacts the designated funeral home director and/or cemetery to initiate the family’s request, in some cases next day services may be required

  • Initiates as needed other calls to vendors that support funeral services

MINIMUM Requirements


  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Graduated from an accredited school or college of mortuary preferred


  • Current license Funeral Director within the practicing state preferred


  • Two years of experience as a Funeral Director

  • Experience working with Jewish funeral customs preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work ongoing after standard business hours

  • Ability by phone to show compassion and empathy

  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated understanding of religious customs; exposure to Jewish Funeral customs desired

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks to accomplish deadlines

  • Computer literate

  • Ability to proficiently use proprietary software in the administration of responsibilities

  • Work indoors during all seasons and weather conditions

  • Physical effort requiring manual dexterity is required, includes paperwork, calculators, computers and phone usage
