Responsible for researching, evaluating and administering company benefit programs that attract and retain associates while ensuring compliance with all federal and state regulations. Functions as a liaison between HR/Benefits and internal departments (e.g., Accounts Payable, HRIS, Accounting, Payroll, etc.), vendors and associates. Must be customer service and team oriented and adept at communicating benefit complexities to employees, managers, and HR.


25% Benefits Analysis and Research

  • Produces timely and useful data from multiple sources which may include Workday (SCI’s HRIS), Payroll, vendor reports and data files.

  • Produce insightful and actionable analysis and reporting on benefit related issues using tools in Workday and outside resources. For example, reviewing vacation accrual and use data to analyze potential changes to plan design.

  • Considers all aspects of benefits in analysis, which includes financial effect on associates and the company, practicality based on SCI’s structure, as well as how benefits effects attraction, retention and overall employee engagement.

35% Benefits Administration

  • Supports Sr. Benefits Analysts in day-to-day administration of all benefit plans, which may include medical, prescription drug, wellness, dental, vision, life and accident insurance, Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity, pre-paid legal, disability, time-off, leaves of absence, and 401(k)s.

  • Reviews processes (e.g., invoicing, annual enrollment, disability and LOA, etc.) and makes recommendations for improvement.

  • Tests changes in Workday when eligibility or processes change.

  • Oversees integration files between Workday, vendors and other systems.

  • Responds to associate inquiries received through multiple internal channels.

  • Assists in the annual enrollment process:

  • Ensures Workday (SCI’s HR/Benefits system) is updated accurately with all rates, contributions, plans and eligibility criteria.

  • Conducts testing of internal enrollment system within Workday

  • Responds to associate questions regarding benefit changes and updates

  • Maintains electronic and hardcopy benefit records in an orderly fashion.

20% Benefits Communication and Engagement

  • Liaise and coordinate with SCI’s Corporate Communications, other department, employee committees and external vendors on benefits communications.

  • Build and maintain annual communication calendar that integrates with all interested parties (e.g., Benefits, HR, Corp Comm, vendors and employees).

10% Vendor Relationship

  • Audits and processes for payment invoices for each provider of benefit services.

  • Reviews invoicing process on a regular basis to ensure timeliness, efficiency and accuracy.

10% Benefits Compliance

  • Reviews weekly, monthly or annual reports and system interfaces to ensure enrollments are processed according to plan documents and federal/state regulations. Ensures that all exception/errors reports are worked and corrected in a timely manner.

  • Responds to court orders, medical support orders and other required documents as they relate to Benefits programs.

EDUCATIONAL/Experience/MINIMUM Requirements


  • Associates degree or higher


  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with employee benefit programs

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Detail oriented and demonstrated commitment to completing assigned responsibilities with a high level of accuracy and timeliness

  • Strong knowledge of benefit terms and the laws and regulations (federal, state and local) related to benefit plans such as ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, and the interrelationship of each

  • Strong knowledge of laws and regulations (federal, state and local) related to leave programs such as FMLA, ADA, SOX, etc. and the interrelationship of each

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills and ability to work effectively with people at all levels of the company

  • Ability to work in a team environment with a strong customer service focus, when necessary must be able to work independently

  • Knowledge and proficiency with Workday and PC applications including MS Office
